About Juliana Byers
I have always loved history. When I was a little girl, it was dinosaurs; when I was growing up, it was the ANZACs; when I moved to Australia, it was Ned Kelly and the Eureka Stockade, and once I left school, I absorbed myself in the story of my family and where we came from.
However, despite my long fascination with history, for many years I lacked the skills to question many of the myths I had been fed in school. That all changed in 2018, when I went on an overseas tour of sites associated with WW1, and came back shaken to my core.
The things I learned there led to avalanche of further questions about the history I thought I knew, and a desire to understand more about history making. It took some years for this to become a reality, but in 2020 I returned to university and completed a Bachelor of Arts, double-majoring in History & Writing, in 2023.
Through this degree I acquired the skills neccessary to conduct proper historical research and ask questions of the sources. The result was “The Skeptical Historian” podcast, which I launched in April 2023, to share history with the world at large. I am currently writing a Masters thesis in History, and hope to publish my research professionally in the near future.
